Fort Nelson is a restored Victorian fort set on 19 acres with ramparts, outer fortifications, secret underground tunnels and ammunition bunkers. At 1pm each day they fire a Second World War quick-firing 25-pounder field gun.
This venue is quite different to the other castles and ruins on this site, but is truly worth a visit.
Built in the 1860s, Fort Nelson was part of the biggest defence projects ever undertaken in Britain.
Your visit will uncover the history of the fort, the people and includes a Royal Armouries collection.

Opening Times – Open daily 10am – 4pm. Closed 24 – 26 December
Parking – Parking on site. Current charge is £3, also parking opposite Fort – this is free.
