Odiham Castle sits next to the picturesque Basingstoke Canal, and was built by King John in the 13th century. It was primarily used by King John as a hunting lodge.
The castle has been subjected to a siege, was the Christmas retreat for Edward I and David II of Scotland was captive at the castle for 11 years.
To access the castle you take a lovely walk along the canal as there is no car park at the castle. It is a short pretty walk though.

Location – Mill Lane, North Warnborough, Hampshire, RG29 1HQ.
The castle can only be reached via a canal footpath. The castle is signposted off B3349 and leads to Mill Lane. There is a small lay-by on the left, just before you reach a lock. From the lock, a signed footpath leads along the bank of the canal for a half-mile to the castle.

Facilities – There are no facilities on site, there are information boards around the castle and some green areas for a picnic.
Access – Wheelchair access is possible for most of the site. Although beware of the canal.
Dogs – Dogs on leads are welcome.
Safety – There are no risks on site, but the canal walk should be considered for younger children.
